Works on paper

This section is a selection of mixed media drawings, monoprints and digital collages completed over the last 10 years.

Drawing and photography form an important part of my practice. Much of my work is inspired by fleeting moments that strike an instant chord. A ray of sunshine casting a shadow across the corner of a room, an interesting structure within an architectural space, or the delicate glow of fading rays of light. I take pictures of these moments and then later make small studies that form ‘snapshots in time’. Working from the subject indirectly enables me to process my reflections so that I can capture the essence of them, the feeling, and the memory of them. I continue the process through experimentation with different media, as each stage is a further step away from the original recorded photograph, but my memory of the experience becomes fixed in this transformation.

These drawings and ink paintings express in abstract terms my feelings and memories of a place and provide the basis for my digital collages and paintings.
