Works in collections
Selected works in private collections that represent part of the journey I have made as an artist over the last twelve years or so.
Following an earlier career as a textile designer, I wanted to change direction and develop my creativity through painting. As part of my artistic journey since then I have experimented with fragmentation of images using stencils with overlaid layers of thin and textured oil paint.
I became interested in the idea of capturing a memory as a snapshot in time. ‘The Conversation - Light’ was one of three paintings I made in which a memorable holiday in a remote part of the Ardeche in France with family and dear friends, is expressed as a semi figurative composition. Seemingly abstract shapes represent our nightly dinners with everyone, together with table settings, wine, and conversation. Shapes connect and entwine so that the scene with its natural surroundings is hinted at rather than clearly defined.
This approach to painting has remained with me since then as I try to encapsulate the essence of a memory through abstracted imagery. As I return to themes in a circular fashion, light, illumination, transparency, and abstract shape are evident in all my works.
